The AAAAA bands competed at McAllen Stadium. This continued until 2002, when the increase in bands again led to a reorganization of the Pigskin Marching Contest. In 2002, UIL Region XV Marching bands were divided by zones, with the competition including AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA bands at each zone. The East Zone includes bands from Brownsville to Donna and the West Zone includes bands from Alamo to Roma. The East Zone Pigskin Jubilee was held at Donna Stadium with Oscar Herrera as Contest Chairman and the West Zone Pigskin Jubilee was held at La Joya Coyote Stadium with Ruben Adame serving as Contest Chairman. Presently, Region XV Pigskin Jubilee consists of bands from Alamo to Roma while the Region XXVIII Pigskin Jubilee consists of bands from Donna to Brownville. Many band directors have had a major part in the promotion of the Pigskin Music Jubilee, especially Joseph Belamah (formerly at Weslaco), James Murphy and Robert Vezzetti (formerly from Brownville), Joe Frank (formerly at Harlingen), Marion Busby (formerly at Weslaco), Don Flueriet (formerly at La Feria), Ralph Burford (formerly at Edinburg), L.M. Snavely (formerly at McAllen), and Roque Guerra (formerly at Rio Grande City). The Pigskin Music Jubilee is part of the University Interscholastic League marching band competition. Various band directors have served as Executive Secretaries to the UIL Music Executive Committee, composed of school administrators from the participating school districts, to ensure adherence to UIL%u2019s high standards of competition. Past executive secretaries include Martha Alderman (formerly at Harlingen), Ramon Guzman (formerly with Mercedes and McAllen), Paul Mann (formerly at McAllen). Since 1982, Hugo Gonzalez had served as our UIL Executive Secretary. In August 21, 2002, the music community of the Rio Grande Valley lost a great music educator and advocate. His wife, Oralia Gonzalez (formerly with McAllen, PSJA, Sharyland, and Mission) served as our UIL Executive Secretary for one year with great distinction and passion. The entire Rio Grande Valley Music community is greatly appreciative to the Gonzalez family for the many years of dedication and service.Over the years, the Jubilee has continued to showcase the talents of the young musicians of South Texas and their director to capacity crowds appreciative spectators.By Juan Jose Meave.
